A marketing plan for an online business is pretty straightforward.
The goal is most of the time to increase revenue, while the methods to do so need to vary based on the specific niche and the mission behind the company.
Generally speaking, the more traffic you get, the more chances of closing a sale you will receive.
That is true, only when the traffic that comes into your site is actually related to what you are selling.
You need to understand that huge traffic is not the key.
Extremely specific people that are interested in your product are way more important.
So, in the end, marketing is not a numbers game.
Let’s take me as an example, I don’t sell books nor courses. Why would I want to have a million hits per day? That would not be related to gaining money, the only explanation has to do with the willingness of influencing people in an uplifting way.
Yet, for 99% businesses the goal is to increase sales.
Hence, here’s the simple roadmap to get a good marketing plan:
-Define your niche
-Define the people within your niche that are interested and will love your product (this would be called unique selling proposition within your niche) Paradoxically speaking, a weird product that is aimed to sell a lot without being nitty gritty has a niche of itself, the “mass sold, presudo nichey” product.
-Understand what your specific soon-to-be-lovers are looking for (Do a google research and look for the keywords)
-Produce content that will help those people find you, because if what you give is worth it people will want to compensate you for taking the time to give them something.
And that’s really it.
Understand who would want your product, make sure that they can find you and then do the work.
Simple right?
Yes it is simple.
Then why we are not all millionaires?
I believe this has to do with short term thinking, self-medicating behaviours and lazyness.
We are lazy because we allow ourselves to be lazy. We take the prize, then say that it’s not worth it to work for the next prize, and then give ourselves another “comfortable” prize.
